The Relation Between The Use of Independent Living Service and Community Participation and Employment and Mediation Effect of Empowerment

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to reveal the relation between the use of independent living services and community participation and employment and empowerment mediates and to suggest implication improving community participation and employment of people with disability. Telephone survey was carried out for 198 people with severe disability currently utilizing services provided by 10 CIL¡¯s around the country. The results of this study shows that empowerment perfectly mediates the use of CIL services with community participants and employment. In other words, the use of CIL services doesn¡¯t increase community participation or employment directly, but it increases indirectly through a variable, empowerment. This result implies the importance of service based empowerment, delivering IL services.
